Toothache Got You Down? 3 Simple Ways To Dull The Pain

Posted on

When you're out-of-town, the last thing you want to deal with is a toothache. Unfortunately, dental problems don't always wait for the most opportune time. If a toothache has turned your vacation into a painful experience, you might not be able to find a dentist as quickly as you'd like. That means you might be dealing with the pain until you can get home. Don't cut your vacation short. Use these simple home remedies to alleviate the pain until you can get to your dentist.

Think Wheat Grass

If you haven't been practicing the best oral hygiene during your vacation, bacteria may have built-up inside your mouth – especially below the gum line and between your teeth. Unfortunately, that bacteria can lead to toothache pain, especially if you already have a problem with tooth decay. Wheat grass can kill the bacteria that's causing your toothache pain. Wheat grass can be chewed for fast pain relief. If you don't like the idea of chewing on grass, you can also add wheat grass to your favorite juice.

Grab Some Essential Oils

If your toothache has left you with throbbing pain, you may want to grab some essential oils – specifically tea tree oil. Not only will tea tree oil alleviate your toothache pain, it will also help combat gum disease. Tea tree oil is easy to use, which makes it a great pain relief agent when you're on vacation.

Place about 8 ounces of water in a cup and add 10-12 drops of tea tree oil. Rinse your mouth with the solution several times a day to relieve the pain. If you don't have time to stop and rinse, simply place several drops of tea tree oil on a cotton ball and place the cotton ball in your mouth between the affected tooth and the side of your mouth. Leave the cotton ball in place for about 10 minutes.

Reach for the Clove Oil

If you have access to cloves, you have access to a natural pain reliever. Clove oil is a great way to alleviate even the worst toothache pain. All you have to do is crush a whole clove into a fine powder. Mix the powder with a small amount of olive or vegetable oil. Rub the oil mixture directly onto the gums around the affected tooth. Leave the oil in place for about 15 minutes and then rinse your mouth with fresh water. Repeat the application several times a day.

You don't have to let a toothache keep you from enjoying your vacation. Use these quick and easy home remedies to keep the pain away until you can get to a dentist like Family Dental Center TriCities, PC or others.
